WHAT IS SMALL BUSINESS WEEK?

Small Business Week celebrates the enormous contribution small businesses make to the Canadian economy.  It is widely recgnized that small business, however you might define it, (see Small Business Quick Facts in this page's sidebar) is the backbone of the Canadian economy.

In 2007, Small Business Week runs from October 15 to October 19.

SMALL BUSINESS AND THE BURLINGTON CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

Sixty-eight percent of Burlington Chamber of Commerce member companies have fewer than ten employees.  This percentage is representative of small business in both the Burlington business community and the Canadian business community.  Small businesses represent the backbone of the economy.  Many Chamber events are geared towards smaller companies (witness our Business After 5, Business Before 9 networking events).

The Chamber has a Business Excellence award designed specifically to recognize small business.  To qualify for a Business Excellence award in the Small Business category, a company must have fewer than ten employees.

The Programs Committee at the Burlington Chamber has focused some of its efforts into Small Business Week in 2007.  Several Chamber events have been planned to recognize the importance of small business to Burlington.  This year, Small Business Week features a special Breakfast Seminar Series that has been planned for each morning during the week.
