UNION GAS BUILDING RECEIVES LEED GOLD CERTIFICATION

Congratulations to
Union Gas
for receiving LEED Gold Certification for its new Burlington
building. The 26,000 square foot building includes several
state-of-the-art technologies designed to reduce energy consumption
by as much as 50%.
BURLINGTON GOLF CLUB HOSTS CURLING CHAMPIONSHIP

The
Burlington Golf & Country
Club has been selected to host the Canadian Mixed Curling National
Championship which will run from November 13 to 21. This
prestigious national championship being hosted in Burlington clearly
demonstrates that the sport of curling in alive and well in Burlington.
DON SMITH NAMED PHILANTHROPIST OF THE YEAR

of the Year by Burlington Community Foundation. Smiths Funeral

JASON BOUWMAN DESIGNS OLYMPIC COIN

Local artist Jason Bouwman of
Compass Creative was
commissioned by the Royal Canadian Mint to design the three coloured
25-cent coins contained in the new Special Edition Uncirculated coin set
released last week, celebrating Canada's top three Olympic winter
moments of all time, as
voted on by fans
across the country.

BRASH AVENEUES WINS
CMA AWARD

Toronto, Chamber member

Avenues won the award for "Best Personnel". The convention

TOURISM BURLINGTON RELEASES "THIS IS OUR BACKYARD"

Tourism Burlington, in
partnership with the Burlington Hotel Association member
hotels, recently released its new meetings and conventions booklet
titled "This Is Our Backyard". Over the next few months, over 500
local businesses and associations will receive a copy of the booklet
asking for help in positioning Burlington to their business partners as

COMPASS CREATEIVE SELECTED BY ROYAL MINT

Jason Bouwman of Compass Creative Studio (a
recent Chamber Business Excellence Award
Winner) was selected by the Royal Canadian Mint to design the new
2009 Special Edition Proof Silver Dollar. This is the second coin that
Jason has designed for the Mint.
CHRISTINE SAWCHUCK OF TAYLOR LIEBOW WINS GOLD MEDAL

Christine Sawchuk of
Taylor Liebow has
been named the 2008 Gold Medal recipient by the Canadian Institute of
Chartered Business Valuators. Christine receive this award by getting
the highest mark in Canada on the final designation exam of the CICBV.
COGECO WINS SERVICE AWARDS

recently won two Service Quality Measurement Group awards. Cogeco won
the Highest Customer Satisfaction Award for the second consecutive year
and also won the First Call Resolution award. Congratulations Cogeco!

SUPPORTS UNITED WAY

raised more than $111,000 for the
United Way of Burlington & Greater Hamilton during its 2008
campaign, surpassing its goal by more than $20,000. The CUMIS
investment in United Way will help to ensure that servers are there
when families need them most.
