HARMONIZED SALES TAX WORKSHOPS
Over the past six months, the Chamber has received more calls about the
Harmonized
Sales Tax than any other business issue. Without doubt, HST is
an issue that is at the top of mind for many Burlington business
leaders. To help you understand how the HST will affect your
business and how you should implement HST at your company, the
Chamber has partnered with BDO Dunwoody to host
five sector-specific workshops so your business can effectively manage this transition.
The workshops are structured based on sectors that have
similar tax rules. Workshops include:

DETAILS |
For-Profit Businesses
The key issue for this sector
will be to ensure your company is ready for the transition to
the Ontario Harmonized Sales Tax from the Ontario Retail Sales
Tax. For-profit businesses must ensure that they are
collecting the Ontario Harmonized Sales Tax commencing on May 1,
2010 on transactions where the goods or services are to be
delivered after July 1, 2010. In addition, there is a new
requirement to self assess the Ontario Harmonized Sales Tax on
transactions where the tax was not paid to the supplier.
This workshop will be of interest to all companies in the
for-profit sector. If you are in a role that advises these
groups (i.e. bankers, lawyers, accountants, board members,
advisors) you might also be interested in attending this
workshop. Businesses in the
construction or sale of goods sector
may instead wish to attend the seminars outlined below.

also focus on which expenses will have the Ontario Harmonized
Sales Tax applied and discuss appropriate tax planning to
minimize this tax.

including those in the medical field, child cares and financial
