Mayor's State of the City
Address
On October 2, Mayor Cam Jackson will
deliver his inaugural State of the City Address. Mayor Jackson will present his views on the City's
accomplishments during his first year in office and the challenges and
opportunities for the upcoming year. This Address is largely
regarded as one of the mayor's "most important speeches of the
year." We expect this event to sell out quickly so
book your tickets soon.
Bank Rate Increases 25 Basis
Points
As expected, on July 10 the
Bank of Canada increased the key policy rate by one quarter of a percentage
point to 4.5%. This is the first increase since May of 2006.
Primary factors driving the rate hike are: inflation running above the
Bank's target of 2%, stronger economic growth than expected and the
economy operating further above it's production capacity limits. The
Bank's next scheduled date for announcing a rate target is September
5.
