Bank Rate Increases 25 Basis Points
As expected, on July 10 the Bank of Canada increased the key policy rate by one quarter of a percentage point to 4.5%.  This is the first increase since May of 2006.  Primary factors driving the rate hike are: inflation running above the Bank's target of 2%, stronger economic growth than expected and the economy operating further above it's production capacity limits.  The Bank's next scheduled date for announcing a rate target is September 5.
